Emily Dickinson for Kids

Book Review: A Voice of her Own by Barbara Dana

I've read a lot of books about Emily Dickinson, but barely any of them are about her childhood. So when actress and author, Barbara Dana sent me her new book about EMily Dickinson as a kid, written for children, I was thrilled.

The book starts out as Emily Dickinson moving to moving back to the Homestead as a young adult. Then it backtracks and stops at age nine. The whole book goes through her life, year by year, and then ends when she's in her early twenty's. That's what I really liked about the book--it focuses only on her life as a kid and never really goes into her adult life. Since I am only eleven, I really liked how I could compare my childhood to her's, which I think Barbara Dana did a great job on--making it realistic.

I think this is an amazing book for kids to read who want to learn more about Emily Dickinson. It gives you a lot of facts, but is also entertaining and enjoyable.
